Welcome to the Computing Programme for 2014/15. In response the many requests from our learners we are continuing to offer a more diverse programme this year which will suit all learners from the absolute beginner to those with some skills and those who want to maintain and enhance the skills they already have. All our computer courses are very popular so book early to make sure you don't miss out. Please note that Digital Photography courses have now moved to Arts and Crafts.
Computing courses on offer this year
This course is back by popular demand and shows you how to use some of the many basic programs on your Apple computer.
Bring along your own Laptop and we will give you an introduction to some of the main programmes; word processing, internet and email.
This is a course designed for students with little or no knowledge of computing. If you have never used a mouse before or switched on a computer, this is the course for you. You will learn basic word processing skills, how to surf the internet and use email. This course continues to be very popular and this year we have a variety of times, days and venues certain to suit all learners.
This is a progression course or for those with basic computing skills. Here you can increase your skills and knowledge, where you will learn Word and email in more detail, but also, depending on the students' requests, you can look at other Microsoft software such as spreadsheets and/or PowerPoint.
Back by popular demand are our Excel One Day Workshops on a Friday. These include Excel for Beginners for those who have never used this software package before. An Introduction to Formulae & Functions is for students with an elementary knowledge of Excel who wish to develop their skills to the next level. On the Excel: Charts and Graphs course you will explore some of the different techniques that can be used to present data in a professional way using graphs and charts.
Use Your Own iPad Workshop is for those who want learn to use basic apps and to load new apps. You will be shown how to use your iPad to organise your emails, notes, messages, calendar and social networks and how to keep your iPad safe and secure. You will also be able to use the iPad camera effectively and be able to edit your photos and notes.
Use Your Own iPad - Beginners
This course is similar to the Worshop above and will provide an introduction to the basics of iPad and give you practical experience of using the key features available and the variety of ways iPad can be used. This course will be taught over 5 weeks as opposed to the one day workshop above.
Use Your Own Ipad - Intermediate
This course follows on from the one above or if you have experience of using your iPad then this course is the one for you. You will learn how to Use Social network apps, Shop online, Edit and share images, photos and screen shots; write, edit and save documents; Synchronise your iPad to your computer, and use cloud storage to access your pc documents and pictures with the iPad.
Use Your Own iPad - Load, Edit and Share your Photographs
This course covers the variety of ways photos, scans and pictures can be loaded onto the iPad. You will be shown the many ways to edit and add special effects to pictures and create collages using iPad apps. You will also be shown how to share finished images on social networks, by email or via 'the cloud' and how to keep your photos in an organised and accessible way.
Beginners - If you do not have an iPad but have a Tablet, then this course will support you in getting the best out of it.
This course will give you an introduction in how to use Mail Merge in Word and templates to create letters, envelopes and labels to send to both multiple and single recipients.
If you want to create a simple but professional looking website without having to use or learn computer programming language (eg HTML) then this course is for you. The website you create with Serif WebPlus 6 will be designed around ready-made templates which you will customise and adapt to suit your requirements.
This course will give you an introduction in how to use and customise the Windows 8 operating system
This course will show you how to create a professional presentation using Microsoft Powerpoint and is for beginners.
