Literature and Creative Writing

If you enjoy writing for pleasure, why not expand your literary expressiveness on one of our various Creative Writing Courses.

Creative Writing for Beginners provides an introduction to a variety of basic writing skills, techniques and genres whilst encouraging experimentation and practice. A student on last year’s course described it as ‘Extremely enjoyable, informative and interesting.’

Creative Writing for Improvers is for writers with some experience, building on the basics to explore new approaches and genres, using examples from published literature and students’ own work.

Creative Writing for Improvers/Advanced is for writers with either some, or quite a bit of experience, who’ve mastered the basics and want to expand their skills, explore different genres, and blow their literary boundaries!

Writing Workshop provides an opportunity to give and receive practical and constructive criticism on improving writing.

We are also offering one day workshops in a range of Creative Writing subject areas:

Writing Your Novel
Autobiographical Writing
Writing Short Stories
Writing For Radio.

Skills for Life - Free Courses

All of our Skills for Life courses lead to qualifications at different levels to suit your ability. These courses are designed for students with few or no qualifications and provide an excellent stepping stone to GCSE qualifications and further learning. Courses are planned to suit individual needs and allow you the time to study at your own pace.

Before you join the course, we will arrange to meet with you to discuss your particular needs and identify the most suitable course. As part of this you will do a ‘skills check’ so we can help you find out the skills you already have and decide on the right course for you. Ring 01825 761820 and ask for Skills for Life. Remember, all of these courses are free.

You can join these courses throughout the year. If you can’t find a course to suit your needs, please ring 01825 761820 and ask for Skills for Life and we will see if we can help you. We are happy to put on additional courses subject to demand.

If you need any help in choosing the appropriate course for you or would like more information, please telephone the ACRES office on 01825 761820 and we will be happy to provide you with further details, or you can visit our website at www.acreslearning.org.uk
