What you already need to know

This course is open to all and adaptable to different levels. If you're new to art and design, you will be shown how to begin, in a stylised way, by using basic geometric shapes. More experienced artists can explore in their preferred manner.

What you will learn

- We'll use research and creative thinking techniques to explore what visually says: Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy Diwali etc. and generate ideas.
- We'll look at the basic structure of letterforms to help you to interpret and sketch them.
- We'll use thumbnail, pencil sketches to get your initial ideas down; then develop your favourite by experimenting further with layout and visual style.
- You'll also learn how to draw up a design in a format suitable for printing.
- And, building on your card idea, we'll look at adapting your design to make a 'tile' for creating a simple block repeat pattern.

N.B. PRINTING IS NOT INCLUDED.
To take your card to the printing stage, you will need to have your artwork scanned at high resolution. Contact details of a local printer can be given, along with links to online printing and pattern making resources.

How you will learn it

Through a combination of tutor instruction, theory, demonstrations and practical hands-on tasks.

She has also created a range of personalised, illustrated gifts which retailed through a well-known online store. She recently trained as a tutor and ACRES is excited to be offering this new course in Heathfield.
