Course overview
In this intermediate class you will be encouraged on a journey of self discovery as you learn how to develop your own style of drawing and painting.
Using the theme of gardens you will delve into the work of other artists, examining how their techniques and styles influence others, and take from your findings, new approaches to your own art work.
Where Etchingham Village Hall, Parsonage Croft, High Street, Etchingham, TN19 7BY.
When
Thursday, 10:00am - 12:00pm from 18th April 2024 until 11th July 2024 for 10 weeks.
Please note no class on 25th April and 2nd May. The course will finish on 11th of July 2024.
No class 30th May (Half Term).
Cost
The full fee is £203.00.
What you already need to know
This is an intermediate art course.
You will be expected to:
- Have some experience of drawing
- Understand how perspective works
- Be familiar with using tone and texture
- Have some knowledge of colour mixing and combinations
What you will learn
How to reflect on the magical, ephemeral beauty of the garden.
You will do this using the following methods:
- Researching artists; their techniques and influences
- Applying aspects from your research to your own work
- Developing observational and accurate drawing skills
- Improving technique e.g. brushwork
How you will learn it
Practical application is a key element and you will have plenty of opportunity to develop your skills with tutor demonstration, guidance and feedback.
Research will be gathered, examined and consolidated through group discussion.
Bring to the first session
Sketchbook
Drawing materials - different grade pencils
Painting kit - preferred paints and brushes, palette, water pots.
A handy optional item would be a portfolio to keep your work together but a large bag will do.
As the course progresses you may wish to bring in other materials. Discuss these with Ian before purchasing anything new.
To avoid unnecessary cost please do not purchase any materials or textbooks until you are certain that your course will run. Course decisions are normally made a week prior to the course start date.
Extra study or practice
Researching artists is an important aspect of this course. You may wish to spend time doing this outside of the lessons to build your knowledge and enrich the class discussions.
