Course overview
An opportunity to learn needle felting and create up to two cute little bumble bees to use as a brooch or corsage, embellish bags, decorate wreaths or hang on mobiles. This ideal introduction will equip you with all the knowledge, tips and techniques needed to create these gorgeous bees on the day and, importantly, start a fun creative hobby with almost limitless project possibilities! A craft to occupy both hand and mind.

Saturday, 10:00am - 12:00pm on 11th May 2024 for 1 day.

What you already need to know
Open to all, beginners welcome
What you will learn
How to
- pull off wool fibres from a wool top
- select the best wool for different parts of the project
- use Needle Felting techniques to make a firm 3D shape
- make 2D shapes either by free hand or using cookie cutters
- use needle felting to decorate projects
How you will learn it
- Sara will talk through and demonstrate each stage of the project
- We keep the group small so that Sara can offer each student one-to-one support
- You will also receive handouts with clear written and illustrated step-by-step instructions that you can keep
- Sara will also bring along lots of pictures and be able to recommend books and websites for further inspiration and opportunities to keep exploring the project possibilities and advance your learning.
About your tutor
Sara Masham studied creative Arts as a Bachelor of Education honours degree before starting teaching in 1990. She lived abroad in Norway for four years where she discovered a new creative skill in the form of needle and wet felting. She attended many courses during the four years to learn felting skills from very talented fashion designers and experienced felters from Germany, Denmark, Holland, Norway and USA. Sara has a great passion for felting and looks forward to sharing these skills with you on one of her courses.
Bring to the first session
Wool to make one bee will be provided and you will be given the tools needed to use on the day. Replacement needles will have a small charge of 70p
Extra study or practice
This is a craft that can easily be continued and expanded at home. Should you wish to continue Sara will be able to advise you where wool needles and foam can be purchased.
