Adult College for Rural East Sussex

Welcome to the Adult College for Rural East Sussex

A warm welcome to the Adult College for Rural East Sussex’s programme of courses for 2009-10.

The programme is full of a range of exciting, high quality courses, some new ones as well as some that have proven to be popular in the past, hopefully providing learning opportunities that will appeal to everyone.

We aim to offer an excellent service whether you want to learn a new skill, take up a new interest for pleasure or personal development or gain a nationally recognised qualification. ACRES offers free impartial information and advice to help you choose the right course for you and in March 2009 we were awarded the Matrix Standard in recognition of the high standard of information and advice we offer to students.

There is a new section in the programme this year called ‘Workplace Skills’ and these courses are aimed at providing you with useful skills for the workplace and include Sage, Accounting, NVQs and ICT courses.

Don’t miss out – enrol today and enjoy learning!

Patchwork and Quilting
An industrious day of quilting by a group of ACRES students will benefit disadvantaged children. A total of eleven ladies who learn patchwork and quilting at the WI hall in Ghylll Road Crowborough took part in Project Linus.
Teacher Corinne Simpson got her students involved in the charity after learning about them at a quilting event in Lewes. Project Linus sees volunteer "blanketeers" work all over the UK and America to hand make quilts for youngsters who are seioulsy ill or traumatised.
Mrs Simpson said "Everybody said they had a terrific day. It was very quiet a lot of the time with sewing machines buzzing."
The group finished eight blankets on the day and hope to be able to send up to 24 completed blankets to children in need.
Well done, ladies!

Dance
Yvonne Wright has just completed two short dance courses at Heathfield Community College - Latino Dancing and Rock & Roll. The feedback after the first session was superb. "Great!" was the comment. Even the men there enjoyed it.
Strictly Come Dancing - watch out!
All the dance courses in Sport, Health and Fitness are proving very popular. Whether tastes are for Dance as a form of exercise, the allure of the Belly Dance, the vibrancy of Latin American or the social type dance like Rock - dance is a superb way of getting fit and having an enjoyable time.
